After two months of clouds, I finally got to spend a few nights under the stars again 😀🧪🔭✨

Messier 81 or Bode’s Nebula would be a little smaller than the moon and about half as tall, if it was bright enough. Right above is our youngest companion galaxy, the dwarf galaxy Holmberg IX.

👻🎃Happy Halloween, everyone🎃👻

These dusty ghosts roam around Cepheus, showing their little ones where to knock on heavens' door for 🍬 & 🎟️

The dust clouds are pretty faint. Manuel & I worked together to image them for over 21h.

The clouds moved on just in time for the partial lunar eclipse 2023 😀

I like the moon, but a tractor beam for clouds would be great. 😅

Danke, Andreas.

The sunflower galaxy enchants with its beautifully structured active star-forming regions. But don't get too close to your screen: the black hole at its center contains the equivalent of 1 billion solar masses 😉

Messier 82 will become more visible in the night sky over the coming months. I acquired about 4 hours of one-shot color data so far and would like to go deeper in the coming season to get more details from the red spiral arms and the dust lanes.

Spent a weekend at the STATT astrocamp in the Harz mountains, Germany recently. If you are in the area, it’s definitely worth a stay. Pristine clear skies and really nice people.

Comet 103P/Hartley ist currently visible near Capella. It might get bright enough for the naked eye until mid October.
It still has enough mass for about another 100 cycles unless it breaks up on the way during its 6.5 year long orbit.
