Few people outside academia grasp the seismic transformation underway in the U.S.
One of the key pillars of the American development model—the university and research system—is under violent attack, with the goal of undermining its very foundations. And with them, democracy itself.

Death threats against judges are rising — and instead of dialing it back, the GOP is doubling down.

Even after Chief Justice John Roberts called the push for impeachment “not appropriate,” Republicans are pressing ahead. Just this week, House Republicans moved to impeach six federal judges.

Well, I guess we are witnessing how autocracies are born. Fascists doing fascist things and opposers still wasting time accusing one another of not being coherent enough ten years ago, or nitpicking about how appropriate a given word is.

At this point, I don't feel particularly at ease when most of the web in my country runs on AWS and other services from the big 5.
It's not just "big bad corporations" anymore. It has become a matter of corporations from a potentially hostile country. Who knew I would have ever feared this.

Quanto mi piacerebbe che l'Italia ne approfittasse, sburocratizzando il sistema della ricerca per attrarre cervelli dall'estero.

Vediamo in che modo e con quali conseguenze. 👇

I can understand why people filter out as much "disturbing" content as possible by blocking away. However, this also means that we stay in our comfortable space preaching to the converted, with zero chances of convincing others or -- heaven preserve us! -- looking critically at our own reasoning.

I read a lot of (well-justified) complaints about how expensive American high education system is. So, I have a naive question. No intent to mock or provoke, a genuine (probably ill-informed) question: 1/3
