Seriously @wired.com?!? You went with this headline when the lede says it's a totally natural comet? This is very bad #scicomm #seti clickbait 😡

Also, fyi, one loud alien conspiracy theorist vs. 100s of astronomers saying its always been a comet is not a "debate." I'm not linking to this piece

Oh look another Hatch Act violation, this time by the USDA 🫠

btw, I love the juxtaposition of "official government website" with "radical left democrat shutdown" I'm sure that won't come back to bite anyone in the behind /s

Earlier this year, I spoke with scientists in the LA area about the aftermath of the fires. How are local scientists using their expertise to help their communities recover?

Those conversations with me, @emfurd.bsky.social & @gvd.bsky.social led to @eos.org's Sept issue: From Devastation to Data 🧪

This massive stinker dropped into my inbox just now 💩 It lists a whole bunch of things that NASA has done in the past 100 days, but fails to mention that most of these things were initiated more than 100 days ago, and also doesn't mention...

I'm late to this party, but my two cents:

No.

Last year, I participated in a workshop with leading experts in the search for life & science communication, about how to break this news if & when it happens. We wrote guidelines (coming soon) about how to do it responsibly. This ⬇️ is why it's needed.

Saw that post about words in NSF grants that get your grant flagged. It comes from this senate doc (pp. 41-43):

“There are very few deaf geoscientists, but with better access to geoscience signs maybe we can see geosciences become more diverse.”

My latest for Eos explores how Deaf scientists create new ASL signs to make STEM more accessible to everyone.
