The things in Clark Ashton Smith's Vaults of Yoh-Vombis. The alzabo from Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun. The ghouls from Brian McNaughton's Throne of Bones. Jeffrey Ford's Daddy Longlegs of the Evening (named after the Dali painting). Ford's Twilight Pariah is pretty great too!

It's very Ciscoan! (High compliment) I love his writing so much that I always lag one book behind reading them. I get the new one and then wait to read it until the next comes out because I like having a book I know will explode my brain ready for when I need exploding

I just read The Rings of Saturn by W. G. Sebald found it impossible not to devour in a few days... The thoughts were so fascinating I just had to see what Sebald connected up next.

I've been meaning to reread The Sot-Weed Factor! I hope I don't ever lose the ability to enjoy long books -- there's nothing like slowly learning how to experience the author's world over hundreds of pages
