Did you know that only 2.5% of the water on our planet is clean water? 🌍💧

In our latest blog post, we explore the challenges associated with Sustainable Development Goal No. 6 and explain how ASTERISK ✳️ is working to avoid wasting this precious resource ⚡🌊

We're back home now, our heads full of ideas after a few inspiring days in Slovenia! 💭🫂

There's nothing better than meeting in person to share knowledge, ask questions and tackle challenges together 🥳

See u all in Berlin in June for our next meeting ✳️

Good morning from Ljubljana! 🇸🇮

We're enjoying our second in-person meeting here in Slovenia 🫂

Huge thanks to our partner, the Jožef Stefan Institute, for making it happen🙏

And now… let’s talk about green hydrogen! ✳️🌊

📝Every story has a beginning — and ours builds on the work and knowledge generated by ANEMEL, our first consortium for green hydrogen production💚

Curious about the key diferences between these projects? Read all about it in our latest blog post!👀

Do you know why we celebrate #HydrogenDay on October 8th? The reason is quite interesting! 🧐

It turns out that the atomic weight of hydrogen is 1.008 u, making 10/8 the perfect day to discuss the future of hydrogen🗨️

However, we are committed to achieving this, as it will enable remote communities, such as those on islands, to produce their own energy in future. 🏝️⚡

Using seawater for electrolysis is a technological challenge, as it contains microplastics, microorganisms and other particles that must be removed. 🦠❌ Also, salinity can corrode our expensive technological devices!

This is where ASTERISK wants to make a difference. 🙌 Instead of using fresh water, we will produce green hydrogen directly from seawater. 🌊 To this end, we will collect samples from three different locations in the Mediterranean Sea.

Nowadays, this process usually involves the use of fresh water. 🫗 However, this poses a problem as fresh water is a scarce resource required for human consumption, agriculture and livestock farming. 👩🌾🐮🛀

The answer lies in water. 💧 Water is not only a key element for life on earth, but also a source of energy. 🌎⚡ Through a process called electrolysis, an electric current splits water into its most basic components, hydrogen and oxygen.

As you may know, green hydrogen is seen as a key element to decarbonise our economy. 🏭♻️ The reason is simple: unlike fossil fuels, hydrogen does not release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere when it is burned. 🔥
