Seriously, at this point the circling helicopters are just performing some kind of psychological warfare. There’s really nothing to warrant them doing this every night, plus they must cost (waste) so much money to operate like this.

Kristi Noem referred to Portland/Oregon’s leadership as “a pack of pansies” on Fox. I guess anyone that thought she was here today to make a good faith assessment of the reality on the ground was mistaken.

The most prominent tech figures seem deeply invested in destabilising a broad sense of reality. My dad said to me the other day with algorithms tailoring social and news media so individually and AI content many can’t distinguish as fake he feels like he can’t believe anything unless…

It’s really hard to narrow it down to who is the most moronic person in this current administration, but wow, Pete Hegseth is really up there!

This ICE Black Hawk Helicopter has spent the last two nights circling above the neighbourhood - there were multiple drones last night too. There’s a larger protest outside today, maybe a couple of hundred people but the helicopter seems excessive.

Recent sketch for a future large painting. Have several others in
progress. They’re a good meditation for reflecting and processing these times.

Lots of online discourse around “war ravaged” Portland, there’s a tendency to conflate the tiny protest down at the ICE building & homelessness. It’s disturbing that Portland’s most vulnerable get dehumanised with labels like “zombie” & some think using the military to “deal with them” is justified.

Trump thinks the protests in Portland have been going continuously for 5 years 🤦🏻‍♂️

We finished up our daughter’s last 2 weeks of Summer break doing day trips around Oregon. It’s been so great! We did Enchanted Forest near Salem, Mitchell Point Tunnel and Hood River, the train ride between Garibaldi and Rockaway and got a cabin for a night in Astoria.

The irony of “anti-Americanism” as a metric for deciding visa status is it could be easily argued that Trump and his movement hate America more than anyone. Project 2025 was always the blueprint for the systematic dismantling and breaking of the US.

My 10 week old son is such a joy, he rarely cries when he wakes up, always greets me with smiles and little chuckles. He loves to fall asleep on my shoulder or as my step mum calls it, “cuddle trap” me 😀. We were so nervous about having a 2nd kid but it’s been the absolute best so far!

My wife pointed out today that this is the perfect moment for all the Karen’s to rise up, seize this moment and film themselves accosting ICE agents. Already some great videos popping up online.

‘Anti-Americanism” as a gauge for immigration eligibility obviously just means whether you’ve ever been critical of Trump on your social media. Labelling applicants as terrorist sympathisers and antisemites most likely means if you’ve ever said anything remotely critical about Gaza.

Stephen Miller definitely looks like someone who subsists entirely on a diet of mayonnaise.

Honestly, I really enjoy most people and can usually find common ground quickly. Not with fascists though - at the very least they only deserve to be disobeyed and mocked relentlessly. They make it easy too because they suck so much.

Border Czar Tom Homan really has a face only his mother could love eh.

Man, it must suck being someone like Laura Loomer and having such relentless Stevie Janowski energy for Trump.

Highlight of my mural project on the Washington Center so far was watching this homeless guy move a bunch of road cones and traffic barriers and close SW 4th from Harvey Milk onwards back towards Naito and no one noticed it wasn’t official for a good 30 mins.

Have listened to a few interviews with Jacinda Adern the last couple of weeks while she’s been out promoting her book. It’s surreal living in the US where the politics and discourse around it are so unhinged, what it’s like to hear a sane person perspective.

I pitched my concept to paint the various words of the day I was posting as an ongoing mural project to the PSAA. Everything fell into place quickly from there and I’m finally back out in the real world, painting and engaging with people in Downtown Portland.

It’s incredible that the President of the United States is openly flirting with suspending Habeas Corpus, disappearing people left and right, arresting judges and politicians, accepting ludicrous bribes from foreign countries, and people are still trying to normalize this shit.

One of the coolest things I’ve been learning about is circular construction, moving away from using new materials especially composites that can’t be salvaged and reused again.

In relation to my last post about Portland’s potential to become a more sustainable and livable city comparable to many major European centres- it seems like the biggest barrier would be around the concept of majority public ownership. Americans are quite allergic to that idea.

My current favourite hobby is learning more about building all types of homes and what helps create more sustainable/livable cities. When compared to countries like Denmark, Austria and Germany it’s pretty mind blowing how archaic the US is by every measure.
