As fun as it is to draw waystations, Jacky doesn't need them. She can and does make her own shelters and seems deeply motivated to be at large in the woods, even when she has somewhere to go back to.
Getting to know her means being willing to chase her down.
Jacky sits on a mossy stone black while Beel holds a rag up to her foot. It looks like she was attacked by something recently (and wasn't quite quick enough to get away). Jacky lived on her own for a while before she ended up with Beel, and she did it to Belzire's aggravation. Belzire found evidence of her living in the area but only ever glimpsed her. From Belzire's perspective she was small, solo, and running loose in a place where things like her can get made past tense real fast. Belz is like a seatbelt advocate and Jacky was never wearing hers. Jacky, silhouetted, points away from herself. Presumably towards an exit. She has fae vibes (fair, she is a faerie, technically). Being in the woods a lot, she'll lead lost people to safety, but they'll probably feel mildly threatened. It's not intentional. She doesn't usually get close enough to talk. Jacky solo adventures in all kinds of places and is extremely hard to catch (or catch up to). She'd rather show them the way out from a comfortable distance. She has a good moral compass, she's just avoidant of other people. Sketches of various shelters Jacky has made. Sometimes its nesting in some roots under a tree, sometimes it's an actual nest in the branches. She can put together sturdier things when she's inclined (from sawed wood), but she's not usually going to be in one spot long enough to bother. She likes moving forward. Constantly. She's comfortable outdoors and used to winning at hide and seek with bigger, hungrier animals (or else). If the weather is bad, she's fine. And if you lose sight of her you're probably not gonna find her. She'll see you before you see her. Jacky curled up in a domed oven- all that remains of a building she found somewhere remote. She's made a door out of tree limbs and spruce boughs, and made a new roof from logs she cut and moss.

I made Herman because I wanted a character that can (and will) keep up with Jacky. He's not gonna get tired or bored. He has a troubled introvert in his sights. She is his type. And she probably snuck a look at him changing shirts.
He would have done a wellness check anyway, but she put out tuna.
Sketches from Herman in 2015. My style was more angular at the time. My chins were pointier, and my bodies were longer (stretched out, almost). Next to them are some colored sketches from 2024. I was trying to capture some of the superficially annoyed energy from the original version. Herman catches a nonbinary lizard anthro trying to steal his phone in the market. He catches them with a yarn rope and leans over them smiling while he takes it back. "If taking stuff is on the table... maybe I'll take you." A size comparison of Herman's 'true form' (200+ pounds of rainbow string) and Jacky. He's about the size of an unraveled couch. Some of the sketches are of her lifting his yarn in bulky ropes. They're not that heavy on their own, but there's a lot to wrap her arms around. Herman with Jacky (lovingly) pushed against a wall. They're kissing. And a couple of other scribbles of his yarn form wrapped around her or just spiraling in the doodle void.

Every once in a while she'll ask herself if being buddy buddy with him is a good idea, and if she shouldn't have left the brooch somewhere, but she does not care. They are like kittens in a shoebox now. They were both floating away and found someone to hold their balloon string.

He can spend some of his charge to warm himself up (he's normally cold). Jacky telling Junior (wraith form) to wake up and chase her around because it will help her get better at escaping from things that actually mean her harm. She tells him to make her believe it or it won't work. He complies. The next panel is her being dragged out from under a table screaming. I dunno if adrenaline junkie is the descriptor thema would use, but he can be intense.

Junior isn't innately dangerous but he got turned into something that is and some of his personality traits lend themselves to it. She just happened to meet him at a time when he was awake enough to make a decision?
Exploratory sketches of Junior when they're supposed to meet in the Cat's Way (but probably scrapped concepts). Junior is a ghost who is bound to a brooch and was left in a market in the Way. He's kind of like a vampire and has to feed- but he can't feed on cats. So he was fading away. Junior could have been an angler fish situation. He has a decent moral compass, but he's been dead for twenty years and he's not always conscious enough (or inclined enough) to choose what he feeds on. Meeting him in the market could have had a snap ending, but she acquired his brooch (and him) instead. Now he's a sleepy ghost that follows her around. He didn't tell her any of this for months, but she didn't ask. From her perspective he's a tiny little guy that she was saddled with until she could find a better place to leave his brooch. Honestly, she thought he was meek. Early sketch of Junior's canonical wraith form- which doesn't match Thema's description. She described something more humanlike with a misted out bottom half (blood mist), and I think a cowl, like the more classic wraith portrayals. But I have to turn everything into dragons. Junior can't take wraith form unless he's fully charged (fed), but it doesn't take much. He's a cold, drippy construct of ichor but he can hit like a semi. had a feeling he might be the pick! According to Thema they take a form that will be familiar to their master (or whatever they're hunting, if they don't have one). Jacky has been projecting her alt form onto him unknowingly, so he looks very similar to her when she shapeshifts. I think there is a slim but growable possibility wraiths can turn on/overpower their masters, and that could have been on the table if he felt abused, but Junior is sleepy and content with the friendship they've developed.
