The other part of the study showed that self-ID'd Dems are are more likely to view those to the right of them as a somewhat more conservative than they self ID as, and self-ID'd Reps are more likely to view those to the left of them as extremists. Self-ID'd Dems are closer to the truth.

The other interpretation is that the Republican Party does a lot better job of representing conservatives than the Democrat Party does representing progressives, which absolutely tracks. I wish the Dem Party did even half the things the Rep Party threaten they (the Dem Party) will. Exasperating.

I read the study and all this part shows is that more self-identified Dems strongly disagreed with Rep Party ideologies (which the questions were based on) than self-identified Reps strongly agreed with them. There's more diversity in Rep responses as Rep Party ideologies were the entire context.
