Hob died about 3 months ago while in warranty. After about a month of threatening legal action, someone arrived, took it away and gave us a temporary hob. Then 2 months later, after threatening yet again, someone arrives to install a replacement. This is fairly normal for doing business here.

All of these subjects are extremely useful to society. (And honestly, we’re naff at predicting future useful, study it for the pursuit of knowledge anyway.)

Do I really have to bring back my “drama taught me more about working in modern tech than my IT lessons” again?

Information hierarchy matters, and it’s often something not well understood by engineers who undervalue design work.

Manchester, UK - The People’s History Museum phm.org.uk - How did England, Scotland and Wales avoid a revolution and gain universal suffrage in 1948? Particularly liked the focus on making this content accessible to children, and finally found out why tea is now considered a working class drink.

Amsterdam, NL- The resistance museum www.iamsterdam.com/en/whats-on/... Focuses on the Nazi occupation of The Netherlands. Great detail on the impact of the occupation on Indonesia, Suriname too and the role that played in regaining independence. Currently has a great temp exhibit on Josephine Baker

Dubrovnik, Croatia- The Red History Museum www.redhistorymuseum.com
A museum that explores Croatian peoples’ experiences with the Yugoslavian regime. I like how the focus on individual stories and culture is used to highlight how censorship and political restrictions blended into normal life.

Lisbon, PT www.museudoaljube.pt
An overview of the resistance movements against the Estado Novo regime. Special mention to the part that explained roles of Angola and other colonies played in regaining democracy. Also - the CIA were training pt officers on interrogation and torture techniques…

And remixes that they don’t count as remixes. No, that track has added vocals and someone added a base line. It is not the same.

iTunes Match used to be the “ok way” where it would preserve your ripped CDs and let you stream other music. Now I have this nonsense if they remaster any CD I own:

Have a meme
July 28, 2025 at 8:07 PM
Turns out these days getting on a bus from memory in London without checking an app is hazardous. My bus diverted and rejoined a long walk from where I wanted to get off. I have never seen such a long diversion, both in length and duration.

I have of course drawn the diversion from memory:

This meme (not mine) illustrates this concept too (specifically vibe coding or using LLMs to learn to code):

Took a few hours out this afternoon to look at pretty plants and eat excellent ice cream. Gave myself a mild case of heat exhaustion. Oops! Pic from today.

I'm riffing off your point to add this. GenAI can make a subset of the things we make, with help. But

-those things could be unmakeable after tidying
-it still might not be helpful (hence PMs)

It doesn't reduce the chance of failure, it increases the no. of potential failure scenarios: a trade-off
