Cambodia called and would like a word… Samantha Powers’ book A problem from hell explains well the US government’s reluctance to use the term genocide and Lemkins fight for treaty ratification. The term does not ascribe a rate or a population percentage, but guilt via ICC requires proving intent.

Update… automated systems are incredibly efficient and if you don’t comply, they will hold it against you. Is anyone home at NSF Office of Polar Programs? Just not responding to a process request is not ok! 46 days of not responding. Now what?

It’s a war zone out there: national guard, multiple urban search team headquarters, fema tents, showers, laundry, bathrooms, world central kitchen in the park by my house, work had an electrical fire this morning, friends lost everything. And yet, we got lucky, again.
