“If it's OK with you, I’m gonna tag along. So, where to? It might be a good idea to check the map and get our bearings.” I started to get a sinking feeling. In one turn, Samus not only gained an unwanted companion, that companion also instantly started chiming in on what I should be doing, like Atreus to Kratos in God of War, or Aloy to… Aloy in Horizon. The next 20 minutes of my demo ranged from mildly annoying to downright infuriating, as Myles constantly bombarded me with either awkward attempts at quippy humor… “It’s about to get reeeeal nerdy in here!” Unwelcome hints that directly defy Metroid’s spirit of exploration and discovery: “Missiles are effective against a creature with a hard shell, you know." He would scold me for not stopping to save my game: “Samus, there's something interesting over there. Are you sure we don’t need to use that?” Comment on everything I scanned: “Can you read that? Does that say anything about this place? They really don’t want anyone in here. Must be a sacred space.” State the obvious: “I can see the door, Samus! Let's get out of here.” And he’d scream whenever an enemy popped out of the ground suddenly. I promise I’m not cherrypicking here – I was in complete disbelief at how Myles was constantly talking during gameplay, to the point where I dug around the settings menu to see if I could tone it down. The only option I found was to mute voice acting entirely, but I don’t see myself doing that when there are plenty of actual cutscenes I’d still like to see play out normally.

the funniest part of marginal mazes being one of the most insanely OP classes in the game is that they also have such extreme sexual dimorphism that you wind up being like 80% beauties boobing breastily and neckbeard nation with absolutely zero inbetween

Let's talk numbers! This section will mostly be regarding Soul Transfer, and an in depth look at the numbers behind it. Remember when I said that Lucky Numbers decrease luck by a certain value? That was a partial lie, and very much an oversimplification of the matter. In fact, they increase your luck. I'll explain: Luck is scaled from 0-99 (in theory). Your lucky number, determines the change when Soul Transfer occurs. Having a lucky number of 00 causes a change of Luck -36 / +64

got to the antechamber in the fourth stratum and I'm still feeling pretty similar about the gameplay/pacing. more detail here
the lack of anything going on at all in 99% of the combat is eating at me like crazy the more I play, the harsh DP economy actively penalizing using anything other than basic attacks combined with the utterly glacial pace of getting new covens makes combat feel like it's forever trying to take off and never bothering to do anything Navigating the map and having RF tick down while representing a lot of different functions is genuinely interesting and tense and fun and I love the neurodivergent playground that the insane party size and upgrade options provides, but it's just intensely demoralizing to literally spend 30 minutes at a time gearing people solely so I can go back to mashing basic attack I feel like removing combat entirely out of bosses and making it auto-resolve after a turn while centering it on the map navigation, with the combat as essentially a minigame for the bosses, might make an already niche game far more niche but fuck if it wouldn't be better paced

Additionally, Steam Controller comes with a new function called "Grip Sense," which is essentially an expansion of the capacitive sensor functionality on Steam Deck's joysticks. When this feature is enabled in a game like a first-person shooter, place your fingers on the Steam Controller's grip to turn on gyroscopic motion control. Then, when your hand feels like it's out of real-world alignment, take your fingers off the grip so you can disable gyro and reposition your hands. Then re-grip the controller to go back to motion control.
