Everyone knows pain, and patients in the waiting room of a psychiatric clinic know pain better than most. Coming to terms with the reality of its existence - while trying to minimise it as much as possible - is a much better option than chasing the elusive spectre of happiness.

The concept (diagnosis) of GAD has helped me immensely in understanding the effect that anxiety has on my relationships and my daily life. Without my psychiatrist, I would probably not be here. The suffering is great!

I’ve always had trans mates since the early 90s, when I was in the first lived experience pilot. It was seen as a threat, and we were utterly loathed, with the whole hospital waiting for us to break down (which, of course, happened). A trans nurse became our one ally. Difference supports difference.

You deem psychiatrists too powerful and worry about their control over people, but what happens if we abolish psychiatry? Won't another group of people have to rigorously train to treat people? Won't there still be a power imbalance? It's clear people are against psychiatry without caring for people

Ever since I started Lamotrigine, I've been functioning better. Treating mental illness is not about being happy at all times. It is about living a dignified and independent life. I now have fulfilling and satisfying relationships. All of this is possible because of my wonderful psychiatrist!
