St Sebastian is one of my favorite figures by far, and over the summer I found this reliquary of him in a museum which holds (what is believed to be) a piece of wood from the very arrows he was struck with!

It is highly decorated with ornate figures and the window showcases a fragment of wood. The descriptive plaque from the museum in which the reliquary is displayed: "St Sebastian 1497 Designed by Hans Holbein the Elder" "St Sebastian was believed to protect people from the plague. This powerfully expressive reliquary was a votive offering commissioned for a Cistercian monastery during an epidemic. Two relics bound in silk fabric are visible behind a glass window. They may be fragments of wood, perhaps thought to be shards of the arrows that pierced the saint." A reliquary of St. Sebastian martyred on the tree made from different polished metals. The Saint and the tree are a silver metal, while the arrows and shroud draped over him are gold in appearance. He stands on a heavily decorated pedestal base that is all one piece together.

I went to Anime Pasadena today, very cute little 2-day local con. So imagine my surprise when I discovered that one of the guests was DON BLUTH! 🤯

I felt so honored that I got to meet him and tell him how much his films shaped my childhood. What an incredible guy. 🥹
