A duck (not the first one, though)
I think the answer is to make *fewer* videos.

I can’t imagine how difficult the external pressures of working for DF are—there is always so much to cover, always—but it sounds like the path y’all are currently on isn’t healthy, and maybe that means reexamining the strategy.

Wario World 2, Nintendo. Make it happen.

And like… that’s what gaming needs right now, I think. Forget mass-market “appeal to everyone” cookie cutter open world games.

Give me games where I roll around a giant egg. Or where I roll around a small ball with a smaller monkey inside. Let the monkey out of the ball and control him with bongos

Viewtiful Joe, Killer7, Pikmin, Chibi-Robo, Wario World, Billy Hatcher.

Metroid went 3D. Zelda went cartoony. Nintendo published their first M-rated game. There was a goddamn Skittles game.

The vibes were off-kilter, odd, and fun

Now I know that aspiring to be the GameCube—a console that failed so hard by Nintendo’s metrics that they pivoted almost immediately to its successor—isn’t a great idea? But I’m excited because things got *weird* on the GameCube

Full spoilers: it’s funny to me that one could intentionally misread the game and take away that a progressive, expanded consciousness agenda focusing on green energy will lead to the downfall and extinction of society.

Again, THIS IS AN INTENTIONAL MISREAD OF THE GAME AND RETRO’S INTENTION

Full spoilers: And to be clear, there is a story to be told about Samus learning to be part of a team and work with other people, and yes, learning to care for—and then losing—them, but boy howdy does this game do a crap job of telling that story
December 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM
While there are a lot of reactive protags out there (in games I love, even!), Samus is a badass space merc who, in previous games, has never really had a problem or situation she couldn’t shoot or puzzle her way out of (well, besides maybe Other M, but that’s a whole other can of baby)
December 8, 2025 at 12:55 PM
Quasi spoilers, but the devs force a real shitty situation out of nowhere that seems intended solely to set up a sequel, and it’s the last of several situations throughout the game where Samus’ agency is taken from her…

Okay. Thinking more about the ending—yeah, I dislike it. I dislike how artificially long a lot of the boss fights are, and the final fight is no exception to this, and I *really* dislike one specific management aspect of it. And then there’s bit after the fight…

Incredibly belated update: turns out that no, the GC controller does not have enough inputs after all

Elemental beams: so what’s my purpose?
Me: you open doors.
Elemental beams: …oh my god
December 7, 2025 at 10:32 PM
One particularly notable spoiler-free example: there’s not really any point in using any of the elemental beams, missiles, or even charge shots in normal mode. Spamming your main attack is just the most effective way to damage *every* enemy in the game, even bosses

I know that people consider Metroid Prime to be Nintendo’s answer to Halo, and while I get the take, I don’t really agree with it. But here—yeah, I can see it
December 6, 2025 at 10:07 PM
Without going into spoilers—the fourth area (fifth, if you count the desert I guess) feels like it straight up came from a different game. Almost like a Halo wannabe game like we saw during the 360/PS3 generation
December 6, 2025 at 10:04 PM
What’s really disappointing is that when it’s firing on all cylinders, it’s a rip-roaring searchy explorer shooty Metroid Prime game. When it’s not, it’s committing some of the worst sins of games that have come out between MP3 and MP4
