Out here trying to square circles
It's not a circle, silly. It's an oval.

And seeing the world as it is can be quite uncomfortable, but that's no reason bury your head in the sand, but a reminder that it takes some courage.

I'm sympathetic to the view that it's an attempt to shift more of the tax burden away from the rich / corporations to the average person, as it's the end consumer who will ultimately be hit

Becaues it's so stupid, that even when a man who is notorious for saying stupid things and the following through on it says it, they struggle to believe it.

It's the politics version of /r/wallstreetbets - you don't cut your losses, you double down. An unfortunate but not uncommon human trait.

I wonder how many people who get their news from Fox are genuinely clueless, and how many just listen because Fox says things that they like. If you live in a world that feels like it's going to shit, I guess it's nicer to read that someone is fixing it rather than read that it's getting shittier.

As someone who listen to Brett before COVID and their podcast completely broke their brain, someone needs to conduct a case study on their decent into madness.

You got years of experience working in different institution, what have you seen work? Calling people racist and sexist etc doesn't seem effective. I'm guessing it's similar to raising a child, say not and don't isn't very effective, instead you need to guide them to discover the correct behaviour.

Yep, give details and do it respectfully. Didn't like a book because of too much dialogue? Cool, I like dialogue so I might check it out. Taste is personal and what people don't like can be as informative as what people do like.

Stop attending the circus, go and have a picnic somewhere else.

Feels a bit ironic to make this statement in place that's definitely stealing a lot attention.

Anyway, I bought a timed phone lockbox the other day. Admitting that my own willpower isn't enough to overpower the algorithms.

In a world where attention has become the most valued commodity, anything that draws attention while be highly sought after, but the value of people’s attention is tethered to the ability to utilize it, whether through propaganda or advertising, so it will always be under attack.

This study presents words one by one to the reader, at the same speed it took the audio presnt them. This is not a good comparison to actual reading. It focuses on the semantic processing of individual words, and isn't at all a study on reading vs listening to audio books.
January 19, 2025 at 11:25 PM
That's not what that study says. Highly correlated is not exactly the same. Secondly, it says semantic processing is the same. It also doesn't test a normal reading experience. It is presenting indvidual words, one by one to match exactly the amount of time it took to present the word with audio.

Let's be honest, this is more theatre than an actual job interview.
