I hate when I listen to a song by a band I don't know and it has a really nice hook, and I'm like "wow, these guys have potential" and then it turns out the hook was the outlier and not potential

Trump's rapid fire of EOs is a clear indication that we've left a rules based order and entered a vibes based order. It's all about how it makes people feel, logic, rules and reality is for suckers.

Complete luxury problem, but I often spend so much time agonizing over whether something is worth the price, that I end up wasting hours doing nothing and going over it, and it probably would’ve been more worthwhile to spend the money and quickly realize that it wasn’t worth it.

Not all questions are scientific questions. But if you want to use scientific studies to bolster your position, make sure you represent them correctly.

Using weak or misrepresented scientific evidence to argue a non-scientific point isn't just dishonest, it's also unnecessary.

Lol, just got blocked by @bcuban.bsky.social because I replied that this study is not good evidence that reading and listening to audio books is the same. The study presents words one by one at the same speed as the audio, not normal reading.

When criticizing, try to add additional considerations instead of burning down what you are criticizing.

If someone tells you that you don't understand or haven't seen the facts, but refuse to show the facts or how to understand, then don't get mad, just walk away.

Care work (health, disability, etc.) isn't good business, and to the extent that it is, it isn't good care work.

Politics is not about policy. Policy is what you get to do after you've won politics.

5-4 is wild. But as a life long sports fan I've learned to take a win and move on even when the performance is sub-par.

Be aware of the person who is extremely confident that they know what you want. They're usually trying to sell you something, and there's no guarantee that it's in your best interest. This goes both for material things and ideological positions.

My belief is that, due to the sheer amount of information and the ease with which you can curate it to suit your wants, we live in post-truth vibe society. The question then is: what's the responsibility of "intellectuals"? To push truth? Or push a vibe that's a proxy for the truth?

If you want to learn, you should probably write as much as you read. It consolidates and illuminates blind spots.

Perfectionism is the prime enemy of learning. Not only because of the induced fear of failure, but because of the completely delusional belief in one shot learning.

Genuinely curious, would you rather live in a society that feels right, but where you are objectively worse off (e.g., health, wealth, rights), or one that feels wrong but objectively delivers better results . Lately, my intuition tells me that people want the vibes.

Sometimes it's easy to look out and get overwhelmed by what you haven't achieved. In those moments it's important to realise it's just a distraction from what you still could achieve. What you did in the past doesn't have to define what you do in the future.
