Word of the day: tholepins (простейший вид уключины, состоящий из двух колышков). Example of use: "Medvedev's mind slips out of tholepins now and then, especially when he gets bibulous".

Thoreau of the Day: ".. the laboring man has not leisure for a true integrity day by day.. He has no time to be anything but a machine. How can he remember well his ignorance — which his growth requires — who has so often to use his knowledge?"

A Central Asian man is riding a bicycle, with his daughter clinging to him. He's wearing a "duppi" (Uzbek) or "toqi" (Tajik) scullcap, which in Russian is called "tubeteika". Duppi is from Turkic töbe - top, peak, head.

Google's AI invented a new book by Stevenson, titled De Gids
Only it's not a book but the name of a Dutch literary magazine

I had a run -- during the run, loud music in my headphones can suppress ruminations, but ruminations still persist and I feel like I'm in hell at the sight of couples holding hands. I wish there was some way to have a relationship and to study

I never reared a young Wombat
To glad me with his pin-hole eye,
But when he most was sweet & fat
And tail-less; he was sure to die!

Word of the day: **pepita** - pumpkin seed (from the Mexican Spanish: pepita de calabaza, 'little seed of squash'). Likely from Latin pepō (“pumpkin”) and related to pepino and Portuguese pevide.

I feel myself like a corpse, because I see lots of people holding hands in the street, and lots of women. Maybe there are even people who actually have sex; have relationships, even have families and children. It's impossible to become alive.

Word of the day: nychthemeron (24-hour day, calendar day). A quote by C.S. Pierce was posted by a friend online. /nɪkˈθi.mə.ɹɑn/, /nɪkˈθɛməɹɑn/ From Ancient Greek νυχθήμερον (nukhthḗmeron), from νύξ (núx, “night”) + ἡμέρα (hēméra, “day”).

Все повторялось: і краса, й потворність.
Усе було: асфальти й спориші.
Поезія — це завжди неповторність,
якийсь безсмертний дотик до душі.

French-derived word of the day: cacolet - open chair or medical stretcher mounted to one side of a pack animal, balanced by another on the other side. - "Il allait (...) en carriole dans la plaine, en cacolet dans la montagne" (Hugo, Les Misérables,t. 1, 1862, p. 16)

Word of the day: diener (mortuary assistant). I've never heard this word before. The word is derived from the German word Leichendiener, which literally means corpse servant (diener means servant). Usage: "It's good that my surgery is in the morning - I'd hate to be late for diener".

I described my weird symptoms of 10 years ago to ChatGPT and it came up with this. Curious - can a mild hypothyroidism really produce endothelial dysfunction to such an extent via depletion of bioavailable nitric oxide? Looks far-fetched, I'll try to read up.

I've learned how to safely remove an SD card from my Samsung phone. This is so counterintuitive. I would never have guessed that I could swipe that particular screen. Ah, wait, there are three dots, one darker than the two others. I was not eagle-eyed enough.
