The wounds run deep 🤣

Thanks for sharing it, I didn’t think of this idea, but it’ll be useful for me too, especially storing things on an actor and passing them to a temporarily spawned attached actor, I didn’t think of that 👍🏻

ah that makes sense! spawn and attach, I guess you drive the text from the individual actor too, it can just pass it to the spawned text actor?

I’ve definitely had some similar quandaries recently. Components are presented as a solution to everything but for certain kinds of logic they seem to me to be more confusing than “going old school” 😂

Maybe I’m just doing it wrong

hmmm.... Could you flip it about and use inheritance for it?

In other words have all your actors that may use this reparented to a class beneath actor, which has this function in it, and then just call it on the ones you need?

a mix of inheritance and components depending on the exact use case?

This popped up on YouTube recommend which is pretty random, but I enjoyed it so came to say hello, really bonkers and I love the CRT video stuff too 🔥

that's why i sold most of the analogue stuff, i just preferred to liquidate them as they'd gone up in value

It was also maintenance, problems that weren't fun, just annoying. I eventually blind A/B things against plugins and digital pedals and nearly always preferred the digital which shocked me😂

when I shared a studio there was one there (I also had some other weird delays and stuff at the time) and it was very noisy and a bit flat

bit by bit I ended up getting rid of all my analogue ones, even spring reverb and so on, cos i just enjoyed the digital ones more and they dint go wrong 🤣

This is legitimately how i work every day, with a 55-inch, maybe 2 feet away 🤣

It's very cool, it makes all the tiny icons in Blender etc a decent size as it's unscaled 4K.

my word, what is this pasta al dente?
October 20, 2025 at 8:54 PM
hahaha I've not heard that one, but it's excellent

Saying "nucular" instead of "nuclear" should attract capital punishment. I will not be swayed.

That said "bone apple teeth" is the superior culinary good wish.

time to write some 600 word LinkedIn posts on how you ARE the future of self-facilitating media nodes 🤣

I now frequent the Devonshire near the station, seeing the beef is a blast from the past 😂

Correct! And this will continue until morale improves

Failing that, heavy cloth hung with a bit of a gap behind it will do a lot more that the egg boxes for absorption
October 6, 2025 at 11:29 AM
It's all from experience, I have a degree in sound art and design, and worked for a lot of years for sound on sound magazine, also went round the world visiting all kinds of studios and audio companies, and even designed my own speakers etc... Rockwool is deifnitely the way to go if you can get it.
October 6, 2025 at 11:27 AM
Egg crates will only have mild absorption around 600Hz or so and mild diffusion around 3.5kHz. Just not worth it really for the ugliness 🤣
October 6, 2025 at 11:20 AM
in order to step up a level the best bet is simple rockwool panels. The absolute simplest is just wrapping blocks of rockwool as they come in a rough cotton and hanging them on the wall, with about an inch or two gap behind them.

The physics quickly gets complex and site specific

They will work to very slightly dampen and diffuse high frequencies but not particularly effectively TBH.

Hanging heavy, slightly porous cloth is much more effective at damping those frequencies (turning the energy of the moving air in to tiny amounts heat)

Yeah I’ve lost hours to typos, having to use plain text for things in engine is terrible
