Not only the coast was defended. A group of strong points around a town would have been prepared for attacks in the rear. A wet anti tank ditch can be seen zigzagging on the map.

In the same strong point, troops of naval transportation, air force air observation, volunteer auxiliary and fortress troops were present. The latter ones manned the fixed infantry weapons in bunkers from the end of 1943. Those weapons are designated with ‘bo’ or bodenständig.

This was the naval battery Noordwijk occupied by the troops of the 7th battery of the Naval Artillery Battalion 201. The tactical signs represent a range of weapons, from MG, to mortar, flame throwers and the main armament of 4 captured French artillery pieces (15,5cm K418 (f)).

Of each position the number of officers/NCOs/soldiers and weaponry from machine gun up were written down in a colour referring to the military branch. Blue for navy, green for air force, black for army/infantry and red for militarised border patrol. Let's check Stp XXXIII ML.

This is one of the air force infantry divisions which were created to fill up the big losses by the army on the eastern front. They were low quality troops originating from Luftwaffe ground personnel and were trained by army (Heer) troops in the area of occupation.

The location of the HQ is marked with a German divisional flag and the numbers 16 for the division.

The Truppenverteilungskarte shows the disposition of troops in a certain coastal area. This map (early 1944) shows the area between IJmuiden and Wassenaar in the Netherlands which was occupied by the 16. Luftwaffen-Feld-Division since february 1943. Their HQ was in Amstelveen.

Although the group of people I follow on Twitter is scaringly small here I'll force myself to visit this place more to get away from Elon's shitty network. Let's share some content instead. Self-promotion first of course! ;) About our book: Atlantikwall in kaart.
