Lastly, councillors would not be able to call the question on a motion when council is discussing an amendment to it.

Under his motion, a motion to call the question would not be possible until all councillors who wish to speak have gotten to do so at least once; a two-thirds majority would be necessary to end debates.

Now voting on Bierk's amendment: lost.

"Municipalities across Ontario are having this exact conversation," he points out. He lists municipalities which have asked their police services to come back to council with efficiencies and alternative budgeting options.

"What I'm presenting here is a softer approach" compared to Riel's, says Bierk.

Now voting on Riel's amendment: lost 5-6.

Coun. Riel is moving an amendment to once again return the police budget to them, asking for a new budget capped at a 7% increase from last year.

Now voting on the motion: it carries unanimously.

Riel asks Binczyk if this build will include affordable units. Binczyk says this hasn't been determined as of yet, but he cites examples of past MDM builds which included affordable units.

Last up, MDM Developments' Thomas Binczyk.

He says this project was designed considering the steep hill the site is on, and that it's a long-term development which creates density in an area where it's needed.

Delegate Chris Roberts is opposed to the redevelopment, he says the traffic and construction is going to endanger his community and produce an excess of noise.
