I seem to be a little out of the loop. A call for submissions for The 12th BHF Book of Horror Stories has been announced over on our FB group. The theme for this anthology is 'Dying, Dead, Undead,' so it's zombies, vampires, mummies, ghouls, graverobbers - all the dead things. #HorrorWriting

Happy Lancashire Day everyone in or from Lancs. I'm in Preston now, and hail originally from Manchester which was part of Lancashire before 'Greater Manchester' county was created on April 1st 1974. We thought it was an April Fool's joke until it never went away.

No novel is a 'guide to London' or any other city. Guide books and maps are guides. Using Dickens, do you expect to find workhouses and Fagin-type mobs of street urchin pickpockets? My favourite guide to London is www.goodreads.com/book/show/28...

God - After you, Sir
Godot - Oh no, you first
God - please, I insist
Godot - I'm not going before you...
God - Aren't there people waiting for you?
Godot - Pot black calling kettle..
God - Go through before me!
Godot - No, you were here first
God - This could take some time...

Gremlins - Secrets Of The Mogwai - If you haven't caught this animation yet, in ten parts on BBC3, do - rather a fun prequel to the movies, nicely animated, with a great villain, sort of Dr Strange turned evil - very enjoyable

Dr Who And The Keys Of Marinus - A curate's egg - Quest story with Hartnell absent for most of it but steals it it in the courtroom scenes. The guy trying to feed people to wolves is a hoot. The slugs feeding false dreams and wishes is great. The rest is utter pants.

Doctor Who - Edge Of Destruction - neat well acted psychodrama, the first indication of an intelligent TARDIS and Susan flipping out with the scissors is genuinely scary. Well acted by the cast and a rare story with no monsters or deaths.
November 3, 2023 at 11:14 AM
Dr Who And The Daleks. Badly timed cliff-hangers - Susan opens the TARDIS door to a thunderclap though we already had thunder story. When resolved, seconds later there is a startling look at the Thal - a better cliff-hanger.  The swamp / caves was done better in the Cushing film.
