not that these numbers are in any way excusable, but 200 school shooting casualties a year is reminding me a lot of 100-200 stranger abductions of children per year—something we have quite famously overreacted to

saw a post about collective trauma re: school shootings among american teens and…it seems almost as foreign to me as i imagine it does to people outside the country
i certainly was never close to that level of fear, and i didn’t get the sense everyone else at my school was either
