Sniffed this wonderful narcissus on my walk the other night - swoon! ... when I started on my aroma journey I couldn't identify most flowers apart and would have never thought to sniff so many flowers that were for me only visual (until then!).

‘Hello my fragrant lovely’. First open flowers on ‘Felicia’ hybrid musk rose.
Tis a little cooler, with a gentle breeze from NNE.
No sign of rain, a good soaking would be welcome - before the roses are in full bloom.
Have a good day everyone, take care. #roses 🌱

This is a fantastic interview with @darrenalanperfumes.bsky.social about safety in perfume - the good, the bad, and the ugly. Debunks a lot of myths and provides really helpful ways of thinking about regulatory and why safe practice matters.

Just between us chickens, I’d like to send out a plea to the guardians of our memories; iconic classic perfumes from big name brands, that once the juice is a zombie perfume, please kill it. Once the jasmine is just a memory and the bans and attempts at modernisations zombify the original, let it go

I think I will make a lilac base because lilac cheers me up and that is what I need.

Or maybe hyacinth ... I smelled some the other day at the supermarket and it immediately improved my mood.

maceration is so important and it always blows my mind how profoundly a trial can change if things are left to marry long enough. times i've overdosed an ingredient that a few weeks later became integrated remind me how magical this process is. I'm looking at you, roman chamomile!

What do most people who think of themselves as good and sane have in common around these three topics:

- Racism
- Brexit
- Trump?

“This isn’t us.”

That needs to change. Focus needs to be on “why so many of us?” rather than “please know I’m one of the good ones.”

Nothing will be solved otherwise.

sniffing while I work...

linalool oxide, Humus Ether (Takasago), geosmin (neat!), and fenchone alpha.

I've had these for a while but just felt like comparing them.

there is method to this madness. I don't have a better system other than organizing by fragrance family/cluster (i.e., white florals/white floralizers, rosy materials, ionones/violety/irone, fruits (back of fridge), green, musks etc. I don't think I have the stamina for an alphabetical system....

since I recently did an Iris (a very earthy orrisy one I might add) for a project I was curious to revisit this Fragonard soliflore to get a sense of how they interpreted it. it's very nice actually: sweet, berried-fruity, but also watery-green/melon and slightly powdery. not especially violety

thinking about doing a lilac accord/base for the spring because the smell is so cheerful... and I really need something cheerful right now to make me feel better. I also want to try making a couple of floral bases from the Appell book (bouvardian and one of the roses) for learning and for pleasure.

Aldron®
Aldron is a strange material. Some people can't smell it at all and some people (especially women) are repulsed by it when smelled pure. Why? No one really knows. But in the right amounts in a blend, ...
