People do not want honesty. I, like you, have been very open about my life and a lot of it my own shittiness. I once had an emotional affair with a married person (thought they were a cis man, they came out as trans this year, and then detransitioned after pushback from in-laws), and it wrecked me.

being able to express and process this stuff openly is load bearing for me being able to actually experience my entire mind and self and not constantly dissociate in order to fit other people's narratives

and there is a great deal of pressure to stop doing that & tell the "appropriate" story

but it absolutely would get me seen as a better person by many people,including,I fear, many people I'm friendly with,if I pretended that being denied the ability to express myself,being touched without consent and being taught weird inappropriate sex things was okay to do to me& should be forgotten

telling the truth about my childhood has cut me off from financial support and given the family that ruined my childhood the opportunity to cast aspersions on me and condemn me in adulthood

not playing along with their (much happier) narrative of my life costs me enormously, & it's worth it

the reason society can support the level of sustained unemployment and disorder that it does is that people are on some level fundamentally decent - even when they are indecent on other levels - and we try not to let our friends slip through the cracks
