I applaud your idealism. However, Gates isn’t ignoring root causes. He is funding innovations in clean energy and carbon capture as well as calling for climate adaptation, public health, and poverty reduction. Both the fence and the ambulance matter for human survival and sustainable ecosystems.

I do agree with you and many others that:

While the US and Australia are both laying off scientists, which is likely to erode both countrys’ future scientific capacity and sovereign innovation capability, Canada and Europe have expanded their scientific research budgets, and are welcoming researcher migrants.
