A good, interesting essay, worth a read for its insights but also for this gem of a sentence: "In a way, England is its own Mary Sue."

Same here, my yearly mammogram found breast cancer in May of this year and catching it early made all the difference in my treatment.
Three years ago, a routine mammogram saved my life. Off for my yearly checkup today, and hoping I'm still in the clear. Anyone due for their checkup this month, please don't put it off - early diagnosis really makes all the difference...

Signal boosting. Some stuff these days is so dark and heavy and there's nothing a single person can do about it. But here, if you are in a position to give a bit of money, you'll actually help with a real tangible thing. Please do if you can?
Miserably, our dog Louis collapsed suddenly and was found to have cancer last Monday, the same day there was an unexpected human death in my immediate family. Louis had a cutting edge new surgery to save his life but needs much more help, and we are out of money. www.gofundme.com/f/louis-need...

In the wake of Tumblr's downscaling announcement last week, I wrote about my favorite social media platform, and the ways both broader internet commentary and Tumblr's current owners have misunderstood the site in recent years: www.wired.com/story/end-of...
Tumblr Is Always Dying
The mainstream narrative has declared Tumblr dead for years. Last week, a leaked memo finally revealed the site’s plans to scale down its operations—but its art, fandoms, and inside jokes rage on.

Every. Single. Time. Followed every single time by the same internal headshake of annoyance.
A day may come when I don't instinctively check my inbox when I get a new mail alert 30 seconds after I send an email to a distribution list I'm on.

But it is not this day.

Apple season in apple land: you'll get apples whether you ordered them or not. "Too many apples" isn't a bad problem to have, but - soooo many apples! (Also, typing this post was, as it turns out, a one way road straight to semantic satiation. What is apple.)

The world’s on fire, yet the small pleasures of autumn still arrive: an abundance of apples from a friend’s orchard; the kiddo’s pockets overflowing when he comes back from the park. So I paint (ineptly) and I make apple fritters (very good) and in between I stare off into the distance. A lot.
