When will these Labour dullards work out that EU SM+CU is essential for getting growth into the UK economy.

It's only by increasing exports that businesses can contribute to the Net Exports part of the GDP equation. For that we need the frictionless trade that EU SM+CU allows.

My FOI request shows, rather remarkably, that Cambridgeshire County Council incurred no cost as it was the contractors cost to bear.

In Cambridgeshire Balfour Beatty Living Places Limited removed all the illegal flags placed on highway infrastructure under their contract with the county council.

Reeves moaning about Brexit but doing absolutely nothing to change direction is no help whatsoever.

Businesses, especially SMEs, need the EU SM+CU to restart exporting and play their part in boosting the "Net exports" component of the GDP equation.

Nothing on helping exports in the speech.

Without EU SM+CU the UK will continue on its path of managed decline.

Driving up Net exports is how business can contribute to GDP growth.

Reeves didn't mention anything that'll help to drive up exports.

Without EU Single Market and Customs Union membership business, particularly SMEs that employ 61% of the workforce, will be unable to contribute to growing the Net Exports component of the GDP equation.

Interestingly, Bristow's CPCA Local Growth Plan lists "Energy and clean-tech" as one of its six priority sectors, yet his party has vowed to eliminate all investment in green projects.

It feels quite contradictory to me.
November 4, 2025 at 7:15 AM
That might well be true but it's clear to anyone that EU SM+CU is essential to get business, particularly SMEs, exporting again.

After all, it's the "Net exports" component of the GDP equation where SMEs, employing 61% of the UK workforce, can drive growth by increasing exports.

Labour definitely need to break one pre-election pledge if they want the economy to grow.

They urgently need to realise EU SM+CU is essential to allow business to contribute to GDP growth with more exports (the "Net exports" part of the GDP equation).

Hey #Morrisons, I really like the new car park in Cambourne with its nice wide spaces!

It's so convenient to get out of the car without having to twist and contort to avoid hitting the car next to you.

This will definitely make me choose you over the competition.

Isn't it really an urban/rural issue. Consider my village 15 miles from Cambridge 97.6% White according to the 2021 census.

This is a good site for looking at the census data

Addenbrookes is in the centre of that map. Can you see why I say Cambridgeshire is predominantly rural?

Last June I took my Mum over to see my daughter at Jesus College in Cambridge. It was as they were setting up for May Ball, hence the orange carpet covering their precious lawn.

I've just noticed on Google Maps that they have a photo of me taking this photo of Mum!

Wow, what a coincidence!

I suspect the Tory test criteria will be pretty simple.

To their credit Cambridgeshire County Council have removed such flags (at some cost to us - the tax payers), meanwhile the CPCA Mayor appears to support installation of flags on the highway according to his Facebook posts.

The Highways Act 1980 s132 makes it clear that it's illegal to

"affixes any picture, letter, sign or other mark upon the surface of a highway or upon any tree, structure or works on or in a highway"

That's weird. You can see a flying jet on Google Maps. I guess that means the photography is from satellite?

This OpenStreetMap map of Cambridgeshire cycle paths highlights how Cambridge disproportionately dominates active transportation infrastructure, even though only about one-seventh of Cambridgeshire taxpayers live in the city.

It's not entirely true that we have no buses. There is one per week at 10:01 on a Thursday to St Neots (a place nobody has ever wanted to go) but you have to leave to come home at 13:00.

Not awfully helpful if you commute to Cambridge for work/school.

An engaging talk on AI by Nick Clegg at @robinsoncollege.bsky.social tonight.

He's a smooth performer who managed to charm the audience into asking only easy questions - the best ones came to us on the way home!

We especially enjoyed the part about Trump.
