Photography, meaning grounded in nihilistic certainty, Jew, raver, autodidact, proud weirdo.
That’s been unfortunately going around lately.

The feeling of betrayal sucks.

Literally the sentence that came to mind.

A lot of what-ifs and tenuous links in that speech. I looked up the references for all the reasons for worry - they’re weak at best.

I like the open mind and also hope the worst fears do not come to pass.

So impossible to explain, so obvious to feel. Wow, yeah.

My love of photography comes from it being a heady blend of the creative and the technical.

You have to be present to see the picture, and then taking it is working the machinery to produce your vision.

But most importantly: great shot!

Yeah, I missed this:

bsky.app/profile/anil...

(I regularly shoot on a 60mp full frame and a fixed focal length and you do “zoom“ with a crop).

So it’s sort of neither. Two pictures, two lenses, one scene (and two different sensors!)
November 8, 2025 at 1:53 PM
Ah…thanks. So it’s not really the camera but the lens.
November 8, 2025 at 1:49 PM
(But I suspect you’re right. Even a 100mp crop would not likely look that good. Happy and interested to be wrong!)
November 8, 2025 at 1:44 PM
It might be. It might not be.
November 8, 2025 at 1:43 PM
Very nice. Term of art is a crop not a zoom if you care.

Palantir isn’t over its skis in datacenter debt. Fundamentals are about deploying AI for use with existing data. It should be somewhat insulated from an AI crash, but it will get dragged down with everyone.

They are not a capital intensive business. I would not expect an implosion or bailout.

Every now and then, my "hit the button enough times and something good will happen" approach to photography pays off.

Dingo - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org

“The dingo is closely related to the New Guinea singing dog: their lineage split early from the lineage that led to today's domestic dogs, and can be traced back through Maritime Southeast Asia to Asia. The oldest remains of dingoes in Australia are around 3,500 years old.”

Clearly you don’t know where dingos come from. They are also colonists.

I have some notes.

Who do you think designed the simulation we’re living in?
