This is often done to fit a narrative that the business leader is pursuing (or actively avoiding), cherry picking bias, among other things. I strongly advocate against vanity metrics and, in isolation, most metrics don't make sense.

As a data professional, I solemnly swear somebody misinterpreted the data instead of listening to our full story/recommendation.

RDR2. Can't seem to get over the visuals or the characters.

I have a slightly nuanced take (perhaps even unpopular). If I were an employer, I wouldn't care if my employees were "slacking" or taking more breaks or what ever. I would identify/define KPI's, hold them accountable to those. If quality of output is uncompromised, why care about siestas on the job?
