Half tech/politics, half gaming and FFXIV nonsense. No, I will not be separating into two accounts to fix that.
I think that Dax would be the best teacher, simply by virtue of age and experience.

I don't think it'd be wrong to start with DS9 as another person said; it's a little bit darker at times and some seasons have a lot to do with capital-W War, which makes for very compelling storytelling. But I think TNG provides greater in-universe context for some of what happens in DS9.

I think the common wisdom I'd agree with is Next Generation as a starting point. The original series is good! but it's also very 1960s, lol.

Next Generation can be a little silly, especially at the start, but it grows into something really amazing really fast.

Okay somehow I completely missed the "except IV" part of your post until I hit "reply." Oops.

I'd contend that IV also doesn't have a "main" villain in a similar fashion, but IV also has all the camp of the time travel silliness that kind of undercuts its seriousness.

I'll always have a soft spot for it because I grew up renting it from Blockbuster repeatedly, but it is a SILLY movie.

Two too tall travelers about to be shown where the BEST mud is.

I haven't sat down and played it yet, but that's only because it's sitting on my computer, waiting for the rainiest of days where I can sit down and lose myself in it the way I lost myself in the first one, marveling at the poignancy of the characters and their stories. Someday I'll really savor it.

I still remember the first time I saw it.

20% of my brain: "Wow, what an overcomplicated gimmick."
The other 80%: "THAT'S SO COOOOOOL"

Love that treatment of the airship. Such a cool card and surprisingly tricksy-viable in Arena BO1 where I've been playing it. Having 8 and then sacrificing one in response to a board wipe so the other 7 dodge it is some real chef-kiss-perfect stuff XD

Legends & Lattes is one of my favorite books of the last decade or so. It was exactly what I needed at a tough time in my life; I hope you enjoy it.

GW2 has some of the best "get lost and explore" maps in all of MMOs IMO.

very carefully
December 5, 2025 at 7:01 PM
It's not that bad. If you want to absolutely-perfect-top-DPS, many builds have a fair bit of mentally remembering cooldown timers as you switch between kits, but there are tons of viable builds that are way less intense if you don't want to do that work (I don't, lol).

It's almost a great post all on its own, lol.

"Shit dude, games. Video games!"
December 4, 2025 at 6:44 PM
I heard about this one a few months ago and I am incredibly excited to read it! Grats on the review and I'll be counting the days, lol
December 4, 2025 at 5:09 PM
That's honestly really cool.

I'd be genuinely interested in seeing their decklists, not to make fun of them, but just to see what the unique meta of a prison is like, lol

I really like how this design feels like a natural mid-point between the TOS/movie era ship designs and the newer style of the TNG designs.

It's not always easy to backfill a "missing link" between designs, but this one truly feels like half Enterprise-A, half Enterprise-D.

DASTARDLY!!!

I feel like "14 Ominous Lobsters" is a college town indie band that's like only popular in the state they're from and their songs are full of deeply cursed existentialism.

Actually when I think about it, it might not even be for those. There's a chance it's actually an optimization for Arena -- part of the justification for the ban of Cauldron Familiar back in 2020 was that "the number of triggers generated [...] can be cumbersome for both players in digital play." 🤔
