Anxiety in the Archives: A Podcast Dissertation About the Rhetorics of Knowledge Control and Dissemination in Academia || Hosted by @clockworkheart

I gotta say, it is really satisfying to be the one to shepherd my own dissertation through Vireo and into the TWU repository, which has become such a primary part of of my work life over the last 8 years. It feels like the perfect end to this bonkers PhD adventure: hdl.handle.net/11274/16897

Well, it was a helluva thing getting this done, and I had to make some drastic format changes in the process but my dissertation has officially been approved by the grad school, a week before graduation!

After 12 years in school, 5 of those in a PhD program, and 2 of those creating my dissertation, I am finally defended and done. It was a long damn road full of a lot of self-doubt so hearing these words was absolute magic for my heart.

Alright, I'm waiting for approval on ep. 13, which I hope to record this weekend, and I've started on ep. 14. After that it's ep. 15 and the two-part ep. 16 for the conclusion. As long as I can keep up momentum, I should defend the week before Halloween. We're getting very close to the end, y'all!

Me, then: I want to create a podcast dissertation that includes libraries in popular culture, studies on narrative and rhetorical theory, and why people oppose open dissemination of knowledge.
Me, now, with six episodes to go and watching the ever-increasing legal treats to American librarians:

In a few short days I'll drop episode 10. And then it's another 6 to go. It has been surprisingly helpful to know that I'm more than halfway done. I've finally hit my stride and if I can keep up the momentum, I'm on track to defend in late-September/early-October. After that, IT'S GRADUATING TIME!

Well, it took awhile, but reports are starting to get back to me that PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT MY PODCAST. It's been an unexpectedly uplifting day but honestly, I wish people would come right to me with their excitement! I'm friendly! TALK TO ME ABOUT LIBRARIES!!

Fairytale Tuesday: The Elves and The Shoemaker
It's been awhile since I posted so here's a reminder: I've been going through the Grimm's 1812 volume of fairytales, one after the other for a few years. I'll finish eventually but for now, let's move...

The one overriding academic fear that I can never get past is that someone I cited will kick my door in and shred me for wildly misunderstanding their work. I’ve been anxiously expecting it for so long that I kind of just wish it would happen already, like ripping off a bandaid.

So I'm reading about library censorship during the Soviet Regime for one of my State Authority episodes and this is the best line and I am going to have to use it: "By the mid 1970s the protest against that total brain-control couldn’t have been concealed any more and it burst out." IT BURST OUT!
