Some more photos from the trip to Hurghada-- I had an absolutely amazing time snorkelling, going out into the desert, and, yes, even relaxing for a bit!

Revisiting some classic ichthyoarchaeology papers on the train as I desperately try to race Storm Claudia out of the country ⛈️😅

With any luck I'll soon have indefinite leave to remain and therefore indefinite leave to be even more annoying ✨

In the spirit of sharing more research updates (and posting more in general), I realized I forgot to mention a pretty big life/research change-- I've moved Down South 🫨 #archaeology #researchupdate #lifeupdate

If you wondered what using denatured trypsin in your collagen (ZooMS) samples looks like, here you go. Dark teal blue on the left (an Atlantic salmon-- Salmo salar) is a normal mass spectrum, olive green on the is the same sample, but showing an incredibly noisy spectrum. #proteomics #archaeology

Walked across a stage with a life sized plush toy salmon yesterday-- what did you get up to?

Finally, we see some heritage professionals contributing to the humorously fake archaeological shitposting in the comments. I would argue with u/TallForADwarf that this hyperlocal meme incidence is, in fact, a successful way of making archaeological oysters interesting 🦪 (9/9)

In response we see a series of archaeological posts on the topic-- still communicated in humorous fashion but with a nice sprinkling of sources 🦪 (8/9)

Interestingly there was immediate pushback to the use of AI images to create memes--this reminded me of the recent discussions occurring here and elsewhere about the use of AI generated images in archaeological publications. The people don't want AI slop, they want real art or photographs! (7/9)

First the memes, which veered historical right from the outset. (6/9)

The comments were vaguely helpful, per usual, but what really took off was subsequent posts gently taking the piss out of the OP. (4/9)

It all appears to have started with this post, asking for good places to get fresh oysters in York 🦪 (3/9)

Don't mind me, just emerging from the ether to share that I passed my viva with minor corrections yesterday.

This is how I know I've been watching too much Grey's Anatomy because I burnt the bottom of my grilled cheese I literally was like "fuck no I'm not losing another one" and surgically removed the burned bread like I was excising a tumor.

If anyone was wondering how to improve their personal best for a 6x6 grid of 2048-- might I suggest being in the final stages of a PhD and reaching never before seen depths of procrastination.

While I've been finishing my PhD (draft done, edits in progress, submission god only knows when 🙃) I've been doing dog sitting and this is just a selection of the silly creatures I get to hang out with on a regular basis. Bill, Leonard, Lacie and Walter 😍
