We visited the Pando Aspen, which came across to me like a big good-natured doggish sort of entity, inclined well toward people, but not terribly interested. There were cougar tracks in some of the snow patches.

Looking up and seeing a landscape reminiscent of the surface of Mars is strange too. And we drove through four different kinds of desert yesterday. Probably more, my ability to distinguish biomes gave up when I realised I could identify maybe a fifth of the plants I could see.
