i think where i disagree with OP though is that submissiveness/bottomy is "undesirable"; rather, i think trans femmes tend to fall into those roles because it feels like what is expected: it is what makes us *desirable* (or at least affirms gender expression as it appears to heteronormativity)

i don't know how much good dichotomous thinking is doing us here. i know our monkey brains need to categorize things and people to make sense of the world, but i fear this would fall victim to the same semantic and not connotative replacement that "sub" and "dom" have seen.

this dichotomy because neither role requires penetration! and neither does good sex! to serve this similar purpose, i've tended towards "giver" and "receiver," as i feel this encompasses more expressions of sex and sexuality, and is less restrictive of which sexual acts are performed. but truthfully

presentations and relationship dynamics. and i agree that "sub" and "dom" have largely replaced top and bottom semantically, but has done next to nothing to change any connotations! all these labels are just "who penetrates who" with extra steps! when in reality, "sub" and "dom" out to exist outside
