Last night I felt like I'd just been given a new toy, for, after 6 nights of sleepless post-op torment, I was able to sleep proper sleep, and be able to have dreams, and go to the bathroom, knowing that when I came back to bed I would drift off to sleep again. And that filled me with a quiet joy.

Going into hospital for open heart surgery tomorrow, but am well equipped with music for my recuperation: piano music by Liszt, Mompou and Sorabji, orchestral music by Vaughan Williams and Brian Ferneyhough. Plus season 1 of The Outer Limits.

I have a distant memory of reading MOBY DICK in my teens but that must be almost six decades ago. I remember some of the characters, particularly Ahab and Queequeeg, and the former's all-consuming obsession with the white whale.
And I met the book again today, there in front of me on the shelves.

It now seems inevitable that the orange beast that slouches towards Bethlehem will revoke the 4-year Presidential term of office to ensure that he stays in power!for as long as he pleases.
Now, l'm not an American, but the thought of this happening sends a chill down my spine.

Watched Hitchcocks classic adaptation of John Buchans The Thirty-Nine Steps last night.
I'm not saying it's been a political year, but thoughts turned to @greenparty.org.uk coming 2nd to Labour 39 times at GE24.
