Analytical and Quantitative Light Microscopy Course
@aqlm.bsky.social
This is the account for the Analytical and Quantitative Light Microscopy Course at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole MA. We love all things microscopy!
Next on the 2026 roster is Dr. Peter Kner, @knerlab.bsky.social. He lectures on wave #optics, #diffraction, and #contrast generation in imaging. This Physics 101 gets everyone on the same #wavelength, even if your background is all biology. Apply now to join us! bit.ly/49YQl7q

First up is AQLM Director, Dr. Alexa Mattheyses. @mattheyseslab.bsky.social She kicks off the course with an introduction to #optics, where you build a #Kohler #microscope using nothing but #lenses and #physics.

If this sounds like your jam, apply now to join! bit.ly/49YQl7q

Live cell lab: understanding the trade offs between acquisition time, SNR, spatial resolution, and cell survival on different microscope systems. You can’t have it all, but ideally you can have enough for meaningful analysis. #AQLM2025

The back focal plane! Today Dr. Chris Bjornsson demonstrated Abbe’s theory of resolution by manipulating the light passing through the back focal plane. Here he is using a lens to focus the back focal plane onto the camera for us to see. #AQLM2025
