The ability to regulate emotions can play an important role in how we perform. We all experience emotions - some positive, and some not so beneficial. By being mindful of our emotions, we can use strategies to respond in ways that will help us stay positive and continue performing at a high level.

As someone who works in two science-based fields, I enjoy reading research to stay fresh on the newest information to best help my athletes, to make sure I never stop learning, and to know I can back up the programming and strategies I ask them to use. That said, this is my least favorite journal.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but sport specialization isn't the evil approach it has been made to be. Some kids are forced into playing multiple sports when that isn't what they desire. This means additional dollars spent by parents for youth athletes who don't enjoy what they are doing. (1/3)

Track & Field is the ultimate equalizer in competitive sport. In few other sports will you see an athlete from a relatively small school defeat an athlete from a larger power conference program. Watching the confidence of the athletes at the NCAA regionals should inspire athletes at all levels.

We've all competed against or even been that confident athlete on the field or court. We've also athletes who appear to take that confidence to another level (negatively). We say they are arrogant. What is the difference between confidence and arrogance?

Confidence is the belief that an individual has concerning their ability to succeed and reach a given level of performance. Some of the greatest athletes of all-time reached the highest level because of a belief they had in themselves. Learn more at www.apsportsperformance.com.

Ten years ago, I wasn't sure if this would be a stepping stone or if I would make McLean County my long-term home. It's possible both can be true at the same time. Two CEOs, four Vice Presidents, five Fitness Center Managers, and four PIT Managers later, I'm still here. (1/4)

Unpopular opinion: Every rep doesn't have to be perfect, especially when working with youth athletes. Stop being hyper critical. Instead, ask these questions:
1. Are they getting stronger?
2. Are they working toward the intended goal?
3. Are they doing it safely without getting injured?
