Breaking News At a meeting on 19 November NHS Lothian agreed to resume referrals for gender affirming surgery for 18-24s. This followed reinstatement of referrals for 25+ on 17 October. The 'pause', where referrals for gender affirming surgery were secretly placed on hold, occurred in May this year but they only began informing patients in September. But after Trans Safety Network broke the story in October and RTiE held emergency meeting to develop actions - including raising awareness, submitting FOls, and lobbying politicians - they have bowed to public attention and pressure and lifted the 'pause' early. This isn't over: We need to keep the pressure up. Ask your health care providers and political representatives How was this allowed to happen? How come GIC clinicians and trans* patients weren't consulted? Why weren't patients told? Where is the transparency? Who is going to be held accountable for this withdrawal of care? How will they ensure this never happens again?
