It's still common here in Appalachia for food to come from personal hunting, trapping, or butchering.

Whatever's on your table—Happy Thanksgiving from Eastern Kentucky.

Appalachia is often whitewashed—and Appalachian roots are often purposefully erased.

Put those together & you get a history of Booker T Washington that rarely mentions he was an Affrilachian coal miner.

Rest in power, Booker T. Washington. We honor your place in our region.

Minoru Yasui fought the internment of Japanese Americans all the way to the Supreme Court, then spent his life working on community relations.

We believe in the power of community development and organizers, like Minoru.

Rest in peace, Minoru.

When the mines closed, Wythe County, VA planned to abandon the company town of Ivanhoe.

But Maxine ‘Mack’ Waller wouldn't let it. She was a powerhouse whose work is at the heart of our film "Rough Side of the Mountain."

Rest easy, Mack.

Almost 2 million children were working in factories when Lewis Hine began sneaking in to photograph them in the late 1800s.

Hine believed if people saw what children were being subjected to, they'd demand laws to end it. He was right.

Rest easy, Lewis. We're still using photography to make change.

"Do you know where the Devil lives at?"

"His brother tried to get him to give up that foolishness but he said, 'I got to go to the Devil or my head will be cut off and put on a spear!'"

Happy Halloween! Enjoy this performance of "Ghost Stories" from Roadside in the early 80s.
