Taash using the word nonbinary is jarring and unfitting and "cringe" because it is not a word of the world. For me, when I rewrite this scene for my fic, it will go:

"You are aqun-athlok?"
"Similar. Isabel taught me this Rivaini word - nonbinary. means I'm not man or woman. Just..me."
