Actually, some prominent conservatives supported the treaty. William F. Buckley, Jr. & George Will, for example. Reagan was opposed, but he honored it when he became POTUS.

Look it up. That was 30 yrs ago. And it was for cause. Ethics violations. Louis Freeh, the man Clinton chose to replace Sessions with, was a pain to him for 7 yrs. But Clinton didn’t touch him. As for Obama, he also respected the director’s independence.
