British-Canadian in Canada. Into art, history, and plants. Listen to my podcast, Teen People; the podcast where I track down people who were in TEEN PEOPLE magazine.
It is making me rather emotional to consider that Jane Goodall's childhood stuffed toy still sits on her dresser in London, and is presumably waiting for her to come home from her speaking tour

Weird that @theguardian.com is calling their liveblog "US politics" as if this isn't also Canadian and Mexican politics. And as if the US president isn't posing a threat to Canadian sovereignty and our very statehood.

Bizarre to me that mainstream news orgs are softening and normalizing the idea of the US "annexing" Canada. Consider this definition from an unrelated story in The Economist: "This usually follows military occupation."

So, the correct term is "invade" not "annex".

A fierce defender of Courtney Love, Lisa also celebrates Winona Ryder and Demi Moore; writing about gender bias in celebrity memoir coverage, problematic portrayals of middle-aged women, and the sexist pressure on female pop stars to constantly reinvent themselves.

Just thinking about the fact that the artists, heritage workers and craftspeople being applauded at Notre Dame rn would have degrees and educational pathways that would earn them so much online hate from the very people who are happy their guy is there this evening

Tomorrow (02/20) on Teen People podcast:

Sarah Ditum speaks with me about her new book, TOXIC, a scathing reexamination of celebrity culture in the 2000s; the reign of Perez Hilton, celebrity sex tapes, and tabloids fed by paparazzi who'd do anything to get the shot.

Something new I'm working on: it's a bit elemental; a bit of a cabinet of curiosities. It's made with AI and inspired by Instagram flat lays.

Two autumnal studies by Winifred Nicholson (1893-1981). It's a sunny day here (SE Ontario, Canada). Not much in the way of flowers where I am, although my Gaura still has buds and my sage and lavender are still green and fresh; the frosts have yet to wilt them. #FlowerReport

Who had George W. Bush, Al Gore and Teen People magazine on their Y2K bingo card?

Padraic Maroney is a writer and former Teen People intern. He told me about the time Teen People tried to bring Bush and Gore together to debate youth issues on live TV during the 2000 election!

Did it work? Nope.

The back end of Bing seems to have changed within the past two weeks. Stable Diffusion 2.0 was unpaused but is just awful. SD 1.0 is offline. DALLE won't render photographs anymore; they look patchy. Never used Midjourney; it's too NFTy

I made these about a year ago with SD1

good times

I'm calling this the enChadification of text-to-image AI art:

Six months ago, I was getting weirdly stunning images in the vein of Avedon and Penn. Now the apps are churning out NFT bro profile pictures using the same or similar prompts. smh
