Today for the first time he pawed at his brush to get me to brush him. It’s his best activity, he’ll sit on the desk and let me brush him forever. I feel like he’ll be a lap cat one day.

Both classify the individual things, physical and conceptual, in the philosophers reality. Taxonomy is typically mono hierarchical way of classifying things from broadest to narrower classes. Ontology is poly hierarchical and defines classes using rules called axioms.
