As I said in @politico.com last week, Trump has targeted Californians with tariffs, ICE raids, and attacks on health care. Now he’s coming after us through redistricting. If he’s going to play politics with maps, California will fight back — and defend fair representation.

When non-partisan redistricting was on the ballot in California I supported it because I believe we need less partisanship in politics. But today we find ourselves in extraordinary times. Trump and Republicans are using the nuclear option in Texas to undermine American democracy nationwide.

According to CNN, there have already been 254 mass shootings in America this year. We can respect the Second Amendment while making sure guns are handled safely and responsibly.

Donald Trump and Republicans want to strip away women's freedoms— they just tried and failed to rip health care away from over a million people. The court said no. Birth control, cancer screenings, and Planned Parenthood are safe for now but our fight is far from over.

As Speaker of the State Assembly, I took on the NRA and Republicans and we banned assault weapons and passed some of the toughest gun safety laws in the nation. We must work every day to make our communities safer.

We need to expand access and improve affordability for California’s college students. I’ve done it before. I led successful efforts to cut tuition costs and made bold investments to expand our UC, CSU, community colleges, vocational education, apprenticeships, and job-training programs.

As Speaker of the Assembly, I helped deliver the largest tax cut package in California history, including a $1 billion cut to the car tax. It was part of a bipartisan budget that lowered costs for working families across the state. That’s the kind of proven leadership California needs.

California’s $60 billion agricultural economy depends on a stable, reliable workforce—and Trump’s ICE raids are destabilizing it. Forcing out the very workers who harvest our food threatens supply chains and drives up prices. This isn’t just inhumane, it’s economically reckless.
