While much of the commentary on the ICJ’s climate advisory opinion rightly focuses on its legal conclusions, my latest blog post takes a different approach. I read the opinion as an act of institutional self-presentation: a moment where the Court constructs its own role in the international order.
The ICJ's climate advisory opinion is more than just a ruling on state obligations; it is also an act of institutional self-presentation.
