Here are some quick plots of the identified warming and cooling periods (i.e. 1992-2006 and 2006-2020) in the Reanalysis dataset. Notice the remarkable mirror image in the 200mb streamfunction anomalies between the two periods.

WPC DAY 2 mentions that conditions are favorable for a PRE over NE/NY. The factors are there tomorrow for it to come together. We'll see if it can work out or not. It's possible the deepest moisture and best synoptics do not time correctly.

Yes, all the circulations and weather trends (Japan,USA) during this time were textbook too. Even the AAM had a legitimate poleward excursion of spatial anomalies.
