In case anyone else is seeing an ⬆️ in panic attacks lately, this article may help. I also recommend a therapist account on IG called ‘Anxiety Josh,’ he’s got some great advice & tips. And give yourself patience & rest, things are really tough right now for so many. 🫶

Introduce yourself with the name your parents almost gave you:
Suzanne
After my Dad’s favorite actress, Suzanne Pleshette. But my Mom vetoed it. I’ve never felt like I “fit” with my actual name. And everyone my whole life can’t remember my name after they meet me so maybe it wasn’t a good fit. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Introduce yourself with the name your parents almost gave you:
Ruth
It was actually my name for several hours until mum decided to change it as it didn't suit me.
Introduce yourself with the name your parents almost gave you:

Fleur

Apparently my father was having none of it. Left to my own devices I'd probably choose Marianne which isn't without precedent, as my great-grandmother was Mary Anne

2. Ice Ages
3. Marching Band
4. Physics of Music
5. Sociology of Family

(Plus loads of psych, but that goes without saying. These seemed the five most interesting to mention in retrospect.)

Just putting this out there.
It’s exhausting.
If this is you, keep going.

Foxes and swallows.
A watercolour painting finished on Saturday night. And I hope, a new Mother's Day card for March.
A vixen does incredible work. Somehow feeding and coping with these scallywags.
So few make it through their first year. She is amazing to me.

My college nephew today asked me “what was your favorite book ever?” Really made me think. Couldn’t list just one. Recent read: Project Hail Mary. For a classic: The Count of Monte Cristo. From childhood: Black Beauty; Where the Red Fern Grows; the Little House series. So many more. 📚

Finished reading my #HarryPotter books just before Xmas, 1st time. I 🖤 Harry & Hermione’s best friendship, doesn’t everyone wish they had a friend like that. I also 💛 Luna, others think she’s quirky/weird/neurotic, but she just skips along on her own path & is true to herself. I identify w/that. 🧙‍♂️🧙🪄

Good riddance to 2025. What a horrible year for so many, ending w/many family members down in our group w/the super contagious & aggressive flu going around right now. Protect yourselves out there, take it seriously. Flu can also cause blood clots, strokes & heart attacks. It’s not just a cold. 😷

So far 5 out of 8 family members from Christmas Eve gathering are down with the superflu crud. One person there was symptomatic/sick at the time, so I had a feeling this would happen. I was the only one there who masked & set up my air purifier nearby, so far ok, hoping the mask was enough. 🤞😷 🦠

A holiday baking goal in the next week, a new (to me) cake recipe I haven’t tried before, plan to make it while watching Bake Off episodes for inspiration: sallysbakingaddiction.com/cranberry-or... #BakingTherapy 🍰
Cranberry Orange Bundt Cake - Sally's Baking
Super moist and deliciously flavored cranberry orange Bundt cake with a thick cinnamon swirl inside! It's the holiday dessert you can't miss out on.

I’ve watched all episodes of the original CSI a few times now. The episode ‘Goodbye & Good Luck’ where Sara Sidle leaves because of burnout & severe PTSD is so powerful, it still packs a sorrowful gut punch all these years later when I see it again. Important career but very tough on mental health.

Instead of a kids' table and an adults' table (especially after the kids are grown), big family gatherings should have a loud people's table and a quiet people's table.

Amidst the world’s craziness, all stopped for a few moments today…my first college roommate & friend left this life after a long battle with liver failure. A liver donor & transplant 14 yrs ago allowed her to watch her son grow up to be a young man of almost 15. She can fly now, free of suffering. 🕊️

The world seems extra heavy & depressing & nonsensical today. Really tough to find logic anywhere lately. Vulcans would have a very hard time on this world. (I’ve been watching a lot of Star Trek Voyager re-runs lately as an escape.)

Shout out to all the aunts/uncles out there who are watching their loved nephews/nieces leave the nest to go off to college/university, with all the pride, worry, excitement & sadness of a new chapter. We’ll miss them too! Many of us may not have our own kids but we ❤️ them like they were our own.

Lipton Big Foot Soup (1987-circa 1991): A dried chicken noodle soup mix, featuring noodles shaped like large feet. Advertised not with "Bigfoot" (as in, sasquatch), but rather a giant, hairy, caveman-type character with massive feet named "Big Foot"

Baking doesn’t have to be some complicated project to be a good stress relief activity. Even just making homemade croutons for salads feels like you accomplished something. I use ciabatta rolls, a little olive oil, veggie herb mix. 🥖🥗

Thinking of how lucky I was 15 yrs ago to see the 2010 Tour de France in person. Col de la Madeleine, Morzine-Avoriaz, got to go up Alpe d’Huez & stay there even though they didn’t race it that yr. Then in 2014 I was thrilled to be in Yorkshire UK for the record-setting TdF Grand Depart stages. 💛🚵‍♀️🚴‍♂️
