There have been so many genocides throughout the years that the world has seemingly forgotten, or has decided to ignore, so many victims who have never seen justice served to their oppressors. The people of Gaza deserve to be remembered, and they deserve to have their stories told.

And now, Gaza faces the same thing. Destruction, ethnic cleansing, replacement. The whole world is watching it happen, but as Gaza is assimilated into the Israeli state, will the world remember this? Will the victims of this genocide also be erased, or reduced to villains in a fairy tale?

I've lived in Israel my whole life, and I've never realized this. An entire population was removed from their lands and homes for the sake of others to take them over, and if they are ever brought up in history, they are depicted as the "bad guys" who had to be defeated for Israel to be created.

This makes me think of the first Nakba, and the birth of the state of Israel, and my life there, and the world's memory. Palestine, and the people who lived in it, have been erased, replaced by a foreign society that transformed the landscape in order to eradicate the traces of what came before.

Those were kids I played with, studied with, met around town. People who have been exposed to the same Zionist propaganda that I have, and that in some cases have stuck with. I don't know what they're doing these days, I'm not in contact with anyone. I just can't help but wonder.

Were they busy flattening entire neighborhoods? Bombing refugee camps? Maybe shooting children in the head? Maybe just standing guard at the entrance and blocking aid? Is there a video of them somewhere bragging about the war crimes they've committed? Do I even want to know?

The fight for freedom and justice for Palestinians, and the fight for international law, are far from over. Let this ceasefire be merely the first step in a series of victories for humanity.

It's also important to continue to push to hold those responsible to account. Netanyahu and Gallant have arrest warrants against them in the ICC. I hope that many more Israeli politicians will follow, as well as the western politicians that enabled this. They can't be allowed to get away with it.

Even assuming everything goes well, there's still a long way to go. Israel's apartheid and occupation projects have to come to an end, and a true democracy, one that isn't based on Jewish supremacy, must be put in place. I doubt this will happen very quickly, but with global opinion shifts, maybe.

Don't let anyone tell you that this is fine. It's not fine. It's a GENOCIDE. And feeling grief, sorrow, anger, etc. about this is perfectly natural, and you should give yourself time to process this and to acknowledge this reality. The only way to stay sane is to take care of yourself.

The most atrocious crimes are happening right in front of our eyes, and some people just want us to pretend that there's nothing wrong, or that it's somehow justified, or just expect us not to think about it and carry on with our routine. I just want to say, it's completely normal to be overwhelmed.

I've heard people say that this issue is "complicated" and talk about the economic considerations of western countries in the area in regards to this. I cannot possibly understand this mindset. People are being killed, tortured, starved, deprived of every necessity, and we're talking about money?

We don't have much choice as individuals, we still need to eat and pay rent, so we keep working (if we're not fired for our beliefs) and trying to live out our lives, but every once in a while I think about the things happening in Gaza and I just freeze. It's a terrifying, nauseating sensation.

It's particularly jarring with the genocide in Palestine. The governments of so many countries are trying to make us all believe that this is simply another tragic war, with inevitable losses of life, and not a systemic, brutal, one-sided massacre, and they expect us to carry on as usual. Bizarre.

I cannot remember every name of every victim. But I remember Hind Rajab, and I will do everything in my power to keep her memory alive, so that even if her life is ended, she doesn't disappear from history, and the crimes against her are known.

And Hind is just one name among thousands. Thousands of children who have suffered unimaginably, and who died horribly, and who the world has conspired to forget in life as well as in death. Israel likes this. They want Palestinians not just dead and gone, but erased from existence.
