Here's a #HigherEducationPostcard of Trinity College, Carmarthen, now part of @uwtsd.bsky.social

Up until 1931 it was known as the South Wales and Monmouthshire Training College

Here's a #HigherEducationPostcard puzzle

This is entitled "Lampeter welcome to Cardiff University"

I can't work out the occasion

The card is undated but looks early C20

@cardiffunilib.bsky.social @uwtsd.bsky.social @uwtsdlib.bsky.social any thoughts as to what was going on?

**Deadline Soon (5.23)** We are running a Tenure-Track search for an Asst. Prof. of non-Western focus w/pref. for archaeo/material culture oriented scholars. Our net is wide, yet as an ancient historian my followers can best help spread word that the Near East is a preferred area.

Good.
Pay in Universities is a disgrace, with a more than 30% loss in value of earnings over the last decade.
But balloting over this when tens of thousands are at risk of redundancy from UK Universities would be the wrong move.

Here we go again🧵

These arguments about extra time always miss the central point which is that traditional, time-limited, closed book exams are a poor way to assess and if that many students need extra time, then I'd be taking a long, hard look at the assessment method...
Glad the issue of private schools gaming the system to get extra exam time for their pupils has been picked up because I heard this a couple of weeks ago and felt it completely outrageous.

Quite possible that state school pupils have received lower grades as a result.

But Deputy is clearly better than Pro; don't blame me I don't make the rules

Chancellors in UK universities are now ceremonial; the real boss is the Vice-Chancellor

Vice from the Latin, meaning for, or in place of.

So the boss is the person who stands in for the no longer the boss

1 Chancellor - derived from the Latin for a gatekeeper, the chancellor was, medievally, the monarch's principal clerk in relation to an area of activity; it came to mean the person in charge
