Antigua Telecaster
@antiguatelecaster.bsky.social
I love Fender guitars. Especially with an Antigua burst finish. Especially Telecasters.

I skeet about guitars and guitar stuff, like pedals and amps.
In case you were wondering what it sounds like on an Antigua Telecaster with a Nano Deluxe Memory Man, I got you.

You can tell I haven’t used it in ages, but a blue Johnson was my first acoustic guitar and my second after a Samick Les Paul Special copy (minus the very first being one bought at a department store for $30 a few years earlier that got smashed before I ever learned how to play anything).

“You’re a nice person.”
“How dare you!”
“What? I said you were nice. That’s a compliment.”
“Don’t you know the etymology of the word?!”

@iridescentaudio.bsky.social Hey, I wanna tell you that you and CHz intrigued me enough by your posts that I checked out Alien Soldier many years ago and it quickly became a favorite of mine that still looms large in my mind in some way.

Assuming it’s a production model and not custom, Fender doesn’t make an American Thinline Telecaster with single coils, only a Deluxe. Looks to me like a Vintera II, so top of the line Mexican. Nothing wrong with that at all! My favorite guitars are Telecasters from the 2012 line equivalent to that.

This bass is more yellow than my Telecaster from the same series, which I think is closer to how it left the factory. Under the Telecaster pickguard the finish is more yellow. I love the more pale color and won’t be hurt if the bass eventually fades to that. I think it’s gonna be my main bass now.

Comparison between the new Squier Antigua P-Bass and the 2012 Fender. The Squier has a darker edge that has more contrast with the interior and the finish is less yellow-tinted overall. It of course also has black binding and block inlays with a more amber tint on the neck. No thumb rest either.

Update: I ordered them all and have received three of the four. Still waiting on the Strat to ship.

Chicago Music Exchange limited edition Squier Telecaster Custom in Antigua Burst finish. I had to buy it for obvious reasons.

I also have a thinline. MIM 2012. I bought a single-ply black pickguard off of AliExpress I think for like $6 and I love the look.

Not sure why people are suddenly following me. Look at my new Antigua P-Bass, I guess.

Ah, vintage Data Erase. I’m on I think my seventh cold weather season of wearing my jacket if I need an extra layer. This is the only thing I add no matter how cold it gets. It’s gotten me through -8F walks from the parking lot into work and back.

Finally got myself a Flower Pedals Dandelion tremolo/harmonic tremolo. I’ve wanted to get one for the past few years but it wasn’t a high enough priority before. It’s pretty much the perfect tremolo with all the control you could want and it’s compact and attractive.

Single ply black is even better on sunburst.

I bought two of that model and put mini humbuckers in one of them. The neck feels so good and comfortable on these.

I tune to A, a whole step down from the normal baritone tuning, because it’s easier that way to play in the more common keys.

Got an Amplified Parts order in with a reverb tank for my Princeton (“Bordeaux Reserve” wine red tolex/wheat grille cloth), and some other stuff.

I’m not a big fan of the really springy spring reverb sound, so I like the MOD 3-spring short decay tanks. Sounds more natural than most reverb pedals.

Fender made an absolute ton of guitars in midnight wine. It was a color option for the MIM Standard guitars and basses for around a decade.

I think it’s really great, looks very refined, but I think a rosewood fretboard would match better, so I bought an AmPro II neck. Now I have one classy guitar.

There was also a variation of the Vintage Modified Telecaster Bass with a neck humbucker and Jazz Bass bridge pickup. I don’t have that one yet.

My enthusiasm for Telecasters extends to basses. This is a Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Bass, a body shape Fender has never made themselves, although G&L has an ASAT Bass that looks very much like this. It’s a 32” scale with a “Duncan Designed” ‘51 Precision Bass (Antiquity I) pickup.

I did one myself. I love midnight wine but thought it should have a rosewood fretboard.

I also think putting the pickup switch in the middle makes the most sense so I got a control plate cut that way. I’m gonna put a second string tree on it too once I get another one of this style.

The vintage EHX Polyphase and the modern Stereo Polyphase.

The Stereo isn’t really a reissue, lacking an envelope filter mode but adding a lot of tweakability. I think the base phasing sound is nicer in the original, but the Stereo gives manual control of the start and stop of the frequency sweep.

New pedal day: the SolidGoldFX If 6 Was 9 MKII.

It’s an attempt at making the ultimate Fuzz Face clone. The BC183 transistors are said to straddle the line between the sound of germanium and silicon, the voltage control can simulate a dying battery, and bias can give it that velcro ripping sound.
